My first wife loved Blazing Saddles as much as I do. Unfortunately, she also loved spending more money that I made. My second wife can't stand it but hates to spend money. Oh well, I'm just a pawn in the game of life.

I worked for Fairchild in the mid-70s. Of course, all we heard was the company line.

"Marrano" might also be a Moor.

The main reason there are variations in Spanish throughout the Americas is because of the different regions in Spain the original immigrants were from. The Carribean and seaside areas were dominated by the Spanish navy while the army took over the inland areas. The sailors came primarily from Andalusia and the army came from Castile. I had a college friend who was Cuban (he had rowed himself to Florida in the mid-60s). I went with him to Tijuana and he had a fit about how bad the Spanish of the Mexicans there was.

The United States used to have huge regional differences, to the point that during the Civil War soldiers from New England could not understand those from Alabama and vice versa.

Just ran across this book in a Tucson Weekly article. I think you'll enjoy it. http://www.amazon.com/Open-Veins-Latin-Ame…
