There is a lot wrong with this picture to give "the naysayers" good reason and credibility. You think we WANT it to go bad??? If you believe that for one minute, your tunnel vision & arrogance is mind boggling. Just because we look outside our "wants" and place priority on "needs" and so look at the big picture does not mean we wish failure. In order to find success with anything in life, you need to start with a solid foundation, a structurally sound foundation, if you have any hope of future success & prosperity; Be it relationships, a new business, morals, or reviving a town. This whole thing screams "foundational defect". Unless of course your goal was to just siphon money and fail to begin with. In which case, bravo, you have a job well done. I am sure Tucson will be raising taxes again soon to pay for yet another failing project, because it would seem it is what the powers to be in this town are good at. Who cares if the very citizens they are milking for money are the ones they are screwing over. In the private sector they would be in the unemployment line long ago.
Hate to burst the writer's delusional bubble (not really) but that principal sucked and the school sucks even worse. My daughter went there and BEGGED to go elsewhere which we did after only one semester. She has been happy ever since. Kids doing drugs I. The hallways, constant fights, disabled students being knocked over & seriously injured, teachers ignoring IEPs, have no control over classrooms, no cameras or proper supervision etc. How is that for good reason for high turnover, poor testing scores etc etc etc. My daughter has straight A's and was due to graduate this year but CHOSE to graduate late and retake the classes she "lost out on" in that one lousy semester. It's a sad day when a child has more sense than the "educators" in this school. They get a child that wants to learn and get a good education and they scare her away. I feel sorry for every kid in that school. Whether they are aware or not, they are the ones that will truly suffer in the long run.
Thank you...not sure what it was that you said that touched me so deeply....maybe just knowing as a mother constantly feeling like I have to battle the system..I am not alone, and there is hope to see that smile back on my daughter's face this year...especially since it is her senior year and I so much wish people would just let her feel as normal as possible and it will be a year for her to cherish and look back on...despite the obstacles she must face on a daily basis.... it shouldnt have to be this way...but forge ahead we must, hopefully with more good days than bad...
