"One wonder wtf you people are doing out there? In the desert???"

Actually, we are living a wonderful life! No traffic to speak of, warm friendly neighbors who care how you are doing. A sense of community from a small town that simply doesn't exist in too many places anymore in this fast paced digital world.
Our Christmas Eve celebration is an Ajo tradition that many people come to see every year. We have the Organ Pipe National Monument South of us and the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife preserve to the west of us. The Barry M. Goldwater Air Force gunnery range to our immediate North and the Native American Tohono o'Odham Nation to the East of us.
All that means that Ajo can't get much bigger then it is now.
So if we don't get the latest and greatest store, who cares! Will we as a community shed a tear? Not very likely. Most of us live here by choice. And those that don't are here for a job then they go home. But they never see Ajo as the jewel in the Sonoran Desert that it is.
