With a name like Rodriguez I don't think the South will go for him regardless of his record. They're crazy for football (and basketball) but not too crazy about brown people.

Banning math makes no sense, in particular because of the many great contributes of Arab/Islamic mathematicians to the field (not just algebra). Just look at the number of math terms that are rooted in Arabic. A sure sign these folks are nuts. It also never ceases to amaze me of the crazies that want nothing to do with the 'modern' world, but don't seem to mind things like modern armaments.

Tom, you can raise as much of a ruckus about that statue as you want but it's been there longer than most citizens have been in Tucson. It had been there a while before I left and that was 20 years ago. At least you don't live in a place with Confederate statues and the nuts that think they are a symbol of a glorious past.

Why do people believe you can secure a border as long as the US-Mexico boarder? The closest anyone's ever come to such a secure boarder was East and West Germany and it still wasn't that secure. Even the Great Wall of China couldn't stop folks.
The big banks in this country did the best, they tanked the economy and illegal immigration dropped sharply.

Also, like Tom I don't see soccer ever being big in the US, but because of advertising not folks disliking the game. No place in the game for advertisers to put there numerous commercials.

Well, I really don't like most sports. Soccer I kinda like but don't watch it unless I catch it flipping channels, then only a few minutes. I associate it with tiny blonde women in SUVs and there squalling brood. I did watch it when Pele played for NY, but then it was Pele. I watch baseball (live only, not on tv). Was a big fan of the Toros, which shows how long ago it was I left Tucson. I like cricket (playing not watching. That game will put you to sleep, but you have to like fielders that catch a very hard ball barehanded). For sheer brutality I like Hurling. Played in all weather with sticks used as clubs as often as moving the ball and from my observation done drunk or at least slightly tipsy. Haven't watched basketball since Sean Elliott and Steve Kerr were at UA and didn't watch it before them. Football appears to mostly be commercials and big men whining about things and patting each other on the butt.

As someone who spent nine awful years in Yuma (and escaped right after high school) I would like to say we were always glad we didn't live in Buckeye (or those roadside pits along the Colorado that are now packed with retirees). Also for choices of statuary they could have done worse. Goldwater sort of became fun in later life when he went after Reagan's sabre-rattling and said there was nothing wrong with gays in the military.
