I subscribe to Maddox's point of view regarding Illegal Immigration. He did a piece a while back on it regarding a lawsuit against wal mart alleging that it deprived a lot of immigrant janitors of wages by paying them below the federal minimum wage (to my understanding, at least.)
In order to even think about dealing with immigration, legislators and voters MUST ask themselves these two questions and answer them honestly.
WHY are so many people immigrating to the United States/passing through to Canada?
What can the United States do to SOLVE the cause of this immigration?
You could compare immigration to the oil spill. What animal would stick around and attempt to live in that? They can't, it's impossible to survive, so they move for healthier and more sustainable waters.
Until the CAUSE is dealt with, we will forever be arguing, debating, fighting, and attempting to legislate and enforce the EFFECTS.
What a riot. Nobody in office right now can secure the border even if they wanted to. Even if we had bi partisan cooperation, it wouldn't be possible. Fence? Minefield? Virtual Fence? Military? They haven't come up with something that works, not even on paper.
When I saw those 5 words, I knew right away there was something wrong with that comment.
Disappearing taxes on corporations would not result in lower prices. There's no prior evidence to support that. If anything, a tax break for corporations would only be seen as a profit increase by their own people. This money would continue to be outsourced and put into investments in other countries, not our own country, simply because these corporations do not have to. This is not necessarily evil, but it is a fact, in most cases.
Taxes keep some of that money here in the States, for the benefit of its citizens.
Sure, sit on your asses and complain, complain to high heaven. Point fingers, blame. Put all of the responsibility on someone else.
Military's worked elsewhere on border enforcement. Makes sense to deploy them down there. Doesn't sound like a bad detail, whole lot less risky than af - raq - pak - ran.
For that reason, that's why I like Gifford's thinking. She's more focused on finding a solution to the problem rather than pointing fingers and blaming in order to get up higher on the ladder. This is a lady who's doing her job. No matter what your political affiliation, that can't be denied. You can twist it around and try to attach ulterior motives to it, sure, but one thing is for certain, this woman isn't sitting down with her thumb up her ass unlike certain people in our own state legislature. Paton isn't going to win her seat by trying to minimize her efforts. He needs to make sure that his own efforts, and most importantly, his results, exceed hers. For that reason, if Paton has ideas about this issue, he needs to act on this story immediately and produce decisions with results on the border.
The point was made rather clearly. Oregon has not had to embarrass itself by selling off its own assets to balance the budget.
Regardless of your point of view on any of these things, you must look at the results.
Is the way of thinking that's being pushed, the fear mongering, the trolling, the way our government is being run, is any of that working?
What DID work?
When failing to find good examples in our country, one must look at other countries that are doing well for themselves as an example, some of which may practice the "socialist" policies that certain people are in such an uproar over.
Is socialist even the right term to describe these policies, what's being done and proposed in our own government, much less elsewhere?
Remind me again why Andrew Jackson even bothered to wipe out the national debt and outlaw the "federal reserve" from coming back into the country? Remind me again where the money is coming from to pay "interest rates" when there is only a finite amount of money in our system. Remind me again where money added to the system draws its value from.
The current way people are thinking and acting is like me saying I'm going to quit my job, bring in less money, and I'll actually have MORE money to pay my bills... I hope !
Then I hear that the main problem is the expansion of government, government power, etc. , so it becomes a suspicion of mine that the ulterior motive is to cripple and shut down the government by making it go bankrupt.

What the HELL are your priorities when you're for funding a war with no discernible end that is sucking the majority of the nation's budget to fund and putting the nation on the point that it has to borrow funds in order to keep it going...
but you're in an uproar over taking care of and providing for our own citizens and maintaining the country?!!

Looking back at these comments I posted a couple of years later, I figure I must have had my head buried in the sand pretty deep.
Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.
