    Kudos Tom!
I enjoyed your article. I used to see such behavior at other churches. Our son is the Altar Server for the Saturday Afternoon Mass at San Xavier. Many of the people who go are long time regulars and you don't see any of what you've described. They are respectful of the church and the priests that conduct the Mass. More than once, the priest leading the service has stopped what he is doing and asked that a ringing cell phone be turned off or the owner step outside. Maybe next time you and your family should come and attend the Mass on a Saturday.

    Editor, Tucson Weekly:

I am saddened and angry by the events that happened earlier today at the SAFEWAY store on Oracle and Ina. I read the minute-by-minute timeline that was available. This person probalbly thinks he is a hero for what he has done. To pull out a gun and shoot and another human being at point blank range and then contiune to pull the trigger and hit innocent bystanders is outrageous! I happen to open the link to the suspected shooter, Jared Loughner, and it is of someone who is gone off the edge. His seven minute video of burning the American flag is bizarre. Dressed like an evil elf in black plastic bag and a white cotten mask is really weird. The other two are equally strange. I have never been a proponent of the Death Penalty but this is one case that it should be considered.
May God have mercy on his soul.

Count me a second for Wiseguy. As one of the few natives left, I have seen Tcuson go from being the "Little town with Big Ideas" to a valley with checkerboard sprawl. Why are there subdivisions on the far east and north sides of town when there is empty space inside the city limits? Why must local governments provide water and other basic services to these areas? Can't they provide it for themselves? We have got to quit listening to the Developers and their lackeys and deiced what kind of place this will be for our children and grandchildren!

First, to romero 1984, that was an excellent letter! What else would you call a mixture of Idigenous people, Native Indians, and European Invaders but a seperate race. This similar to the problem I have with a fellow co-worker. He can't see that the Mexican people are dsitinct and sperate from all other Latinos.
My Tata was working in mines in Bisbee during the Copper Strike during the early part of the last century. He and his fellow miners only wanted to be paid an honest day's wage. Along with the "Wobblies" he was put in a cattle car and deported to Mexico. That left my Nana to fend for herself and my future Father and his three sisters, one wich went on to serve as a WAVE in World War II . Luckily, he made it back and rejoined them. Why is is that no one ever speaks of that?
Unfortunatley, these two pieces of legislation will be a lasting legacy and black eye for Arizona.
To Ricardo Small, I liked your idea of splitting up the state into three different parts. The idea of a Baja Arizona has been around for awhile and I think its time for it to take place. Besides, what will the people of Anglozona do when the weeds begin to get out of hand in the traffic medians?

In response to "Magic". If Marrisa Rodriguez is such a wonderful person why didn't she call you when she was ready to leave the bar that night? Wouldn't you have gone to pick here up and drive her home? Why couldn't she have called a cab or someone else? Why did she need to drive home that night?
As someone who works in traffic for a living I have seen things that scare me to death. I see people who talk on a cel phone and scream at their kids on the way to dropping them off at school on their way to work.
Remember, you're in a 2,00 pound vehicle that is going 40 to 50 miles an hour. I know it can't stop on a dime. I have on an orange-colored vest as my only protection.
I do my job becuase I feel it's important. Everyone always bitching about the delays, but no one complains later when the road or intersection is safer for pedestrianss and cars. This is especially true in school zones.
Next time you see a work zone or a road construction area please slow down and pay attetion. We have families too.
