Thanks to Tom Miller and the Tucson Weekly for publishing this tribute to Pete Hamill. He will be greatly missed in these times when a true sense of reality is most needed. Both the books mentioned, "Forever" and "Snow in August" are really great novels imbued with clear messages for our times. RIP Pete.
For clarity regarding the choices for Mayor, Mr. Safier should study the history of the Trini Alvarez El Rio Golf Course and the attempted sale of this treasured 100 plus acres urban public green space primarily lead and promoted by Regina Romero in 2013. Although she now falsely claims she "stopped" the sale, documents gained by court order against the city show that while she was telling the public to "believe" there was no attempt to sell the property, she was actually the lead person trying to do exactly that. I also am not sure who to support between the other two candidates, but as a long-term barrio resident, Romero will never get my vote. Those who believe that valued public parks should not be sold to developers should not vote for her either.
The reporter neglected to mention the most distinguishing differences between them revealed at the event: what kind of Sonoran dogs and Eegee flavor they each prefer.
Hopefully, the candidates' forum organized by the neighborhoods for June 22nd at El Rio Center will provide greater insight into their differences.

Thanks for this fine piece on Chuck Bowden, who is dearly missed by his friends and fans. And thanks to Mary Martha for keeping it alive. Chuck's work is more relevant now than ever. I also miss the wine and smokes.
It should also be noted that similar tactics were used by the mining company in Ludlow, Colrado: the deputizing of armed vigilantee's for the armed deportation of striking worker. In the case of Ludlow they burned down the worker camps, killing men, women, and children. Making America GRATE again.
This is Mr. Denehy's best article he has ever written, even with the factual errors noted by other commentators. One important aspect not noted is the fraudulent govenors election that replaced a progressive, pro-worker administration (see Hunt and Campbell). While it may be hard to believe that Arizona was once progressive, the Bisbee '17 Deportation changed that, even after the fix was proven. Thanks for a well written and important article (for a change).
