As we reported yesterday, the Maybach Music Group Tour concert featuring Rick Ross and others, scheduled for tonight, Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the TCC Arena, was canceled due to "scheduling conflicts."

Former Weekly Web Guy and future Weekly editor has graciously provided alternate options for those planning on attending the show.

And now, Club Congress has announced that its Wovenhand show, scheduled for tomorrow night, Wednesday, Nov. 28, has been canceled as well, this one due to a slightly less-mysterious reason: illness.

From Club Congress' website:

Unfortunately David Eugene Edwards has become ill and was forced to cancel the first few shows of his tour. Believe us, we’re just as bummed as you are. Refunds for this show will be available at the Hotel Lobby at Hotel Congress or through Ticketfly.

Your move, Gibson.

Well, apparently something is holding Rick Ross back — from performing in Tucson tomorrow night, that is.

The Maybach Music Group Tour — better known as the MMG Tour — scheduled for tomorrow night, Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the TCC Arena, has been canceled.

This afternoon, Live Nation, which was promoting the show, sent out a press release announcing it was canceled "due to scheduling conflicts." The show was to feature performances by Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Wale, and Machine Gun Kelly.

Refunds are available at point of purchase.

This just in from trusty Weekly Music Editor Steven Seigel: Tonight's Divine Fits show, scheduled to be at the Rock, is moving over to Club Congress as a result of some unfortunate circumstances.

Doors open at 7 tonight, and the show is scheduled to kick off at 7:40. Ticket prices are still $20, and tickets for purchased for the show at The Rock will be honored at Club Congress.

If there are any further changes, we'll let you know, folks.

Local music fans might remember Jason Willis from his time in such late, lamented bands as The Weird Lovemakers and The Knockout Pills.

But lately he's been getting loads of Internet love for his brilliant short film Catnip: Egress to Oblivion?, a spot-on parody of "classroom drug educational film(s)" that was selected to screen at the American Film Institute's AFI Fest, which takes place from Nov. 1 to Nov. 8, in Los Angeles.

The video above is his latest creation, a stop-motion music video (his first attempt!) for the song "Can't Play Dead" by British rockers The Heavy.

According to a post on Entertainment Weekly's Music Mix blog, which premiered the video yesterday, the band commissioned the video after coming across a video he made last year for the classic song "Halloween" by Kay Lande Selmer and Wade Denning:

”This video is really all about the genius and dedication of animator Jason Willis from Arizona,” guitarist Dan Taylor says. “We stumbled across a beautiful film of his called 'Halloween on YouTube' made on his iPhone and immediately fell in love. We just had to track him down.”

Yes, you read that correctly. He made the thing on his iPhone. Prepare to have your mind further blown.

Brick walls, railroad tracks, band members looking in opposite directions (I call that one the "Joshua Tree") ... all are indicators that you need to fire your band photographer.

Bad press photographs have become a perk — necessary comic relief — of my job, which basically consists every day of combing through hundreds of emails from bands, labels, publicists, promoters, clubs, and prospective writers.

Ultimately, everyone wants your attention and, even better, for you to write about them.

Well, this is the first installment of a series in which I give bands attention — maybe just not quite the attention they were looking for.

This, folks, is a bad press photo:

Dazzeltine.jpg

This band — Dazzeltine (even their name makes me want to put itchy powder in their underwear) — sent me an email with this visual gem. I can't decide if it would look fine if they actually shelled out to hire a pro photog, or if they have just drunk the of Montreal Kool-Aid and couldn't be saved by even the likes of Annie Leibovitz.

Anyway, their music is (a little) better than their photo. You can hear 'em for yourself here.

If you watched last night's ass whoopin' of the Detroit Tigers at the hands of the San Francisco Giants in the first game of the World Series, you saw a little history being made.

In the Giants' 8-3 victory, San Francisco third baseman Pablo "Kung Fu Panda" Sandoval hit three home runs, one of only four players to ever do so in a single World Series game — the others are Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, and Albert Pujols — and the first to do so in his first three at-bats.

For the purposes of this post, it's also important to note that two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim "The Freak" Lincecum, who has been demoted to relief work for the Giants in the postseason, was a solid contributor out of the bullpen. He struck out five batters in 2 1/3 scoreless innings.

Which brings us to The Baseball Project, an all-star band featuring Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate), Peter Buck (R.E.M.), Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows, the Minus 5), and Linda Pitmon (Zuzu's Petals) who perform nothing but songs about baseball.

The group's 2011 album, Volume 2: High and Inside, features the following song — "Panda and the Freak" — an homage to baseball nicknames and the Giants and, in particular, Sandoval and Lincecum. Oh, and Game One starting pitcher Barry Zito gets a shout-out, too.

By the way, that's R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills filling in for Buck in the video.

And in case you couldn't make them out, here are the pertinent lyrics:

The Giants got the Panda, the Giants got the Freak
The Panda’s smoking line drives, the Freak is throwing heat
Panda and the Freak, Panda and the Freak.

When it comes to kung fu fighting, he’s no better than Hong-Chih Kuo
He’s kind of like Bruce Lee if you cross Bruce Lee with a buffalo
He barrels round the bases, he scrambles for ground balls
Zito named him Kung Fu Panda, that’s our Pablo Sandoval

They said he wasn’t built to last, they said he was too small
The Mariners passed him right by, now that was a bad call
Two Cy Youngs, two strike-out crowns, in his first full two seasons
That’s why they call Tim the Freak, because he defies all reason

This is the last of these reminders I'll subject you to, but this is the final notice that submissions are due tomorrow — Friday, Oct. 19 — if you're interested in participating in this year's Great Cover-Up.

This year's event will take place at Plush on Thursday, Dec. 13, Club Congress on Friday, Dec. 14, and the Rialto Theatre on Saturday, Dec. 15, and all proceeds will be donated to the Southern Arizona Artists and Musicians Healthcare Alliance (SAAMHA — formerly TAMHA), which you can read about here.

To submit an application, just send your band name, what type of music you normally play, your top three choices of acts you'd like to cover, contact info (name and email address or phone number) to greatcoveruptucson@gmail.com.

And, in case you have no idea what the hell I'm talking about, read all about the event here.

It's been a decade since Lauryn Hill, hip-hop goddess and onetime member of The Fugees, released a new album — and that was the scattershot live session MTV Unplugged No. 2.0.

But the Rialto Theatre has just announced that Hill (who now prefers to go by Ms. Lauryn Hill, like, all the time) is scheduled to appear at the venue for a show on Monday, Nov. 26.

Hill has been in the news recently, though not for her music. This summer, she pleaded guilty to three counts of tax evasion, with each count carrying a maximum sentence of one year. She arranged to have her sentencing moved to Nov. 27—the day after the Tucson show—so that she could make arrangements to pay her back taxes.

This all comes on the heels of a decade of odd behavior by Ms. Hill in which she's regularly been as many as two hours late to show up for performances, at least one of which was described as a "live obituary."

But in recent months she seems to be on an upswing, with shows garnering largely positive reviews, as well as the debut of at least one new song.

She also recently announced a string of live dates with Nas, all but one of which precede the Tucson date.

So, these shows may very well be a cash-grab to help pay the bills—but that didn't stop you from going to those Pixies reunion shows, did it?

Tickets for the Rialto show go on sale on Friday, Oct. 19. Advance tickets are $58 for general admission on the floor and $63 for reserved seats in the balcony.

Let's all hope for the best here, shall we?
