Get Your Free Prom Dress From Cinderella's Closet

Great news from the do-gooders at Cinderella's Closet: They have 700 free prom dresses ready for Tucson-area high school students.

In 2009, Weekly World Central did a TQ&A with sisters Melissa Shaner and Jennifer McCaig on the project they started for local girls whose families were unable to afford the formal dresses and accessories needed for those dressy prom occasions.

From Cinderella's Closet:

Cinderella’s Closet, a community program that collects and distributes prom dresses, will be offering free prom dresses to Tucson-area High School students on two days in March.

Saturday, March 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Prom-O-Rama at Tucson College, 5151 E Broadway Blvd. #155

Sunday, March 16 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

State Farm Insurance, 7485 E Broadway Blvd.
High school students can receive a free prom dress by showing up at one of the events, no registration necessary. The dresses will be distributed on a first come first served basis.

Cinderella’s Closet Tucson was started by sisters Melissa Tureaud and Jennifer Megaw. “We love the idea Cinderella's fairy godmother making her dream to attend the ball come true,” say the sisters. “And, we started Cinderella's Closet to do just that.

“We provide dresses and accessories to enable girls to attend their high school proms and, at the same time, provide a way to recycle dresses and accessories that are nearly new. It’s an environmentally friendly, socially acceptable way to make memories.”

People wishing to donate prom dresses and accessories to Cinderella’s Closet can drop them off at Melissa Tureaud State Farm Agency, 7485 E Broadway Blvd. Donations will be accepted weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tax-deductible cash donations can also be sent directly to Cinderella’s Closet.
