Tucson City Councilwoman Shirley Scott, who leads Republican Tyler Vogt by 1,754 votes in the Ward 4 race, has sent out a bulletin thanking supporters, but she stopped short of saying the contest was over.

"While results are not final yet, and therefore I will not declare victory yet, we're in good shape," Scott said.

Assistant City Clerk Suzanne Mesich sent out a press release last night saying that an estimated 8,000 votes remained to be counted. She expects those to be processed today and tomorrow, with a final count tomorrow.

Going by the 8,000 number: Vogt would need to get about 61 percent of the remaining vote—a tall order, but not entirely out of the realm of possibility. It all depends on who those late voters are.
