Redistricting Public Hearing in Tucson Aug. 6

Posted By on Wed, Aug 3, 2011 at 9:00 AM

An Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission public hearing in Tucson is Saturday, Aug. 6, 1 p.m. at the Abrams Public Health Building, Room #1106, 3950 S. Country Club Road.

The hearing will include a presentation on the redistricting process, and there will also be a call for public comment. If other hearings across the state are any indication, this could be a high-drama Tea Bag event.

On public comment from the agenda:

This is the time for consideration and discussion of input from the public with respect to communities of interest and other redistricting criteria to be used by the Commission in the development of draft congressional and legislative district maps. Those wishing to address the Commission shall request permission in advance by filling out a speaker slip. Members of the Commission may not discuss items that are not specifically identified on the agenda. Therefore, pursuant to A.R.S. § 38-431.01(H), action taken as a result of public comment on matters not on the agenda will be limited to directing staff to study the matter, responding to any criticism or scheduling the matter for further consideration and decision at a later date.

For more information on the meetings, go to the Arizona Redistricting website here. On this page there's a good redistricting PowerPoint presentation that explains the process, and there's also a connection for live streaming if you want to watch the meeting from your couch.
