Save Ethnic Studies Forum: Be There

Posted By on Fri, Jul 22, 2011 at 9:28 AM

If you missed last month's Save Ethnic Studies forum at Southside Presbyterian Church, the Range would like to remind and urge you to go to the next forum tonight at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tucson, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 4831 E 22nd St.

The forum materials and presentation is particularly helpful if you remain on the fence regarding ethnic studies and what the Mexican American Studies department actually teaches at TUSD (an no, folks, it's not about taking over the U.S. government and creating Aztlan).

Tonight, teachers will discuss their classes, show examples of their curriculum and how it meets state standards, and the best happening of the evening — they will answer your questions, no matter how difficult.

Invitations went out to TUSD Superintendent John Pedicone and state Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal, but they will not be attending. However, you don't need their presence there to see first hand the lessons, the books and talk directly to the teachers - and ask tough questions.
