Both Republican mayoral candidates, Shaun McClusky and Ron Asta, have turned in their nominating petitions. McClusky had 1,183 signatures, while Asta had 1,205. They both needed a minimum of 1,060 valid signatures, so neither one has much wriggle room if there are challenges. It all depends on how good the signatures are.
McClusky was confident and upbeat after turning in his petitions. Over a slice of pie at downtown's Empire Pizza, McClusky said that he didn't expect any kind of negative campaigning if there's a GOP primary.
"I like Ron," McClusky says. "I think he's a hell of a nice guy. I just think I'm a better person for the job."
