Tonight: Help the UA Music Program at Club Congress

Posted By on Tue, May 10, 2011 at 3:27 PM

Two UA students—Victor Castañeda and Kyle Wilson—are the masterminds behind tonight's 8 p.m. show at Club Congress. They have a dream to "revolutionize and revive the love and unity amongst the local music scene."

Bands slated to perform are The Gallery, Van Gogh Rescue, A.M. Eyes, Falling Out of Planes.

Showtime is at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5, and it's a 11-and-older show

A cut of the profits will be donated to the University of Arizona music program.

Here's more information from www.hotelcongress.com:

Every one of the bands featured, along with a few dedicated U of A students have been working extremely hard to make this show and its cause as amazing as possible for everyone. They were selected due to the fact that they are not only musically talented, but also care about the current state of the music scene, are willing to help others and are about much more than just themselves. We have all united, share a common vision, support one another, and hope you will too.

Far too often, bands are taken advantage of by (some, but not ALL;) )money hungry promoters and venues. This self-produced show is putting the power and control back in the hands of the artists. It’s a revolution.

Also, far too often, bands adopt an “every band for themselves” attitude and show up right before they go on, play and leave. Along with them goes their fan base and none are exposed to new and important local music. What ever happened to the good old days when people would go to venues just because there was live music, regardless of who was playing!

Every one of these bands is well worth the listen. We implore you to show up at the beginning and stay until the end. Those who do, will be eligible for awesome door prizes for being one of the first to arrive and will also be entered in the Encore Giveaway, which will be held at the end of the event and will consist of prize packages loaded with merch from each of the bands performing, as well as assorted gift cards and other prizes!

The bands, along with a group of highly motivated U of A student individuals have been working very hard to make this show one to remember.

So come on out, have fun and help us revolutionize and revive the local music scene! Maybe music isn’t dead, maybe we all just forgot what it sounded like. This is going to be special, so join us.
