Loughner to Undergo Psychological Exams to Determine Competency
According to Jim Nintzel, U.S. District Court Judge Larry Burns today granted a defense motion for accused Jan. 8 shooter Jared Lee Loughner to undergo psychological exams, in an effort to determine whether Loughner is competent enough to go on trial.
A competency hearing is now scheduled for May 25.
In other news, Burns agreed to release documents related to search warrants issued in the case, with some minor redactions. The documents in question had been under seal.
Loughner faces 49 counts related to the shooting rampage on Jan. 8 that killed six people and wounded 13 others, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
