I attended a discussion with Dan Stashower (author American Demon) at the last book festival. It's in my queue to read but I may just move it to the top after your recommendation. At same discussion was Jeff Guinn whose latest book is Waco about the Branch Davidians. Read it (and anything by Guinn). Another recommendation about ship expeditions is "In the Kingdom of Ice" by Hampton Sides about the polar voyage of the USS Jeanette, (and anything by him is worth your time). Also highly recommended is, "Black Snow" -Curtis LeMay, the firebombing of Tokyo and the road to the atom bomb by James Scott, (or anything by Scott).
