St. Patrick's Day Parade

Dr. Peter Rhee, chief of the division of trauma, critical care and emergency surgery at University Medical Center, is grand marshal of this year's parade on the theme of "Everyday Heroes." A festival kicks things off at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, March 12; the hour-long parade begins at 5:30 p.m. First responders to the Jan. 8 shooting are honored; representatives of the police and fire departments, EMTs, several local hospitals, social workers, care givers and teachers also will march. In addition, the parade recognizes Padre Eusebio Francisco Kino and the 300th anniversary of his passing. Marchers and spectators are asked to remember the more than one million Irish who died in the potato famine 150 years ago by bringing canned food items for the Community Food Bank. The festival continues during and after the parade with music, dance, kids' activities and Irish food. Free, except for vendors' prices. Call for more information.
