Sleepy Summer? Not for Us!

These are busy times around Weekly World Central. Here are some things you should know about all the various goings-on ...

· The extravaganza that is the Tucson Area Music Awards, aka the TAMMIES, will be taking place on Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the Rialto Theatre. This is going to be one cool event: Local music luminaries Mostly Bears, Ryanhood, Al Perry, New Town, Salvador Duran and Ernie Menehune and his Polynesian Revue will all perform; in between acts, we'll be handing out this year's TAMMIES, in both Readers' Choice and Critics' Choice categories. Plus, a bunch of fantastic restaurants will be dishing out fantastic free food in our first-ever Taste of the TAMMIES, and we'll be enjoying a champagne toast to honor Tucson's 232nd birthday. But the most amazing thing about this all-ages event is that it's free. The whole point: to get together, have a fine time and honor our local music community. The doors to the Rialto will open at 6:30 p.m., with the music starting at 7. You won't want to miss it. Another don't-miss: Our TAMMIES guide, with the list of winners and a sneak preview of the changes in store for the 2008 TAMMIES. You can find that in next week's issue, on Aug. 16.

· On Aug. 23, we'll be publishing our special college survival guide. It'll be interesting, that's for sure. Mark your calendars.

· We're just starting the gradual process of redesigning and integrating our Web sites (tucsonweekly.com, blog.tucsonweekly.com, the underutilized TAMMIES.com and ClubCrawl.net, etc.). If you have any suggestions or comments for us regarding our Internet presence, please e-mail me. I look forward to hearing from you!
