So Annie Burns writes in "God Made Woman," the opening cut on the Burns Sisters' Americana-charting album Out of the Blue, a set of songs that amply demonstrates why the three sibs have been dubbed "the Everly Sisters." (For another analogy, think the Roches with a country edge, the Dixie Chicks with soul.)
Driven by high, intricate harmonies and heartbreak and trading on country, pop, and gospel turns, the album is the sisters' fourth over a 20-year career, but the first to bring them wide airplay outside the Northeast.
Expect to hear "God Made Woman," "The One That Got Away," "Two-Step Recipe" and other tunes from the new disc when the Burns Sisters take the stage at the Plaza Palomino (southeast corner of Fort Lowell and Swan roads) on Saturday, August 18 at 8 p.m. Tickets for the show cost $12 in advance, $15 at the door, and are available at Antigone Books, Hear's Music, City Grill, Brew & Vine and Enchanted Earthworks, or by phone at 297-9133.
