Physicists Don't Get Physical

North Houghton Road, Sept. 25, 2:02 p.m.

A researcher in physics and metaphysics reportedly avoided a sexual encounter with a former prostitute and now finds that she is stealing his identity, according to a Pima County Sheriff's Department report.

The victim said he first encountered the suspect about two years ago, when he was professionally involved in weight-loss treatments she was engaged in. After he met with the woman several times, she asked him to sleep with her, and he refused, stating that he was married and a good Christian. Sometime in 2006, he found out that she was hosting and appearing in some "absolutely disgusting" pornographic Web sites. He subsequently refused to have contact with her.

About eight months ago, the victim stated, someone broke into his office, went through his research papers and stole his passport and Social Security card. Around this time, he discovered through acquaintances that the woman had been arrested for prostitution in several states. He suspected her of the break-in, but wanted to give her "the benefit of the doubt."

Besides running porn Web sites, the woman apparently hosts several christology sites through which she sells crystals and minerals. The victim viewed these sites and found that they included information from the research papers that had been gone through during the break-in. He soon found that the suspect had also been starting e-mail accounts and Web sites in his name. Recently, his wife began receiving e-mails linking to the suspect's pornography sites.

The victim provided police with the Web site addresses and the suspect's telephone number, which appeared on the sites. The case will be pursued, according to the report.

Thrown out of the Water

3800 N. River Road Sept. 24, 4:28 p.m.

According to a PCSD report, a 10-year-old boy swimming in a community pool was violently abused by an adult swimmer who may have felt that his lane was being invaded.

The incident was reported by the boy's mother, who stated that her son had been swimming at the Tucson Jewish Community Center in one of the four swimming-pool lanes reserved for the youth swim team. She was unsure whether or not her son had entered one of the adult lanes at any time during swim practice, but reported that an adult male swimmer had apparently become enraged with the boy, picking him up in the water and hurling him against the swimming-pool wall.

The boy reported that he had been swimming in his lane, minding his own business, when he was thrown against the side of the pool, resulting in an injury to his left arm. He described the suspect as a skinny white man in a swimming cap and goggles.

The identity of the assailant has not been determined, but the boy's arm is "fine now."
