Drive-through Heist

Valencia and Mission Roads, Aug. 14, 6:57 a.m.

According to a report from the Pima County Sheriff's Department, a man backed a truck through the front of a closed convenience store to get inside, and then made off with an automatic teller machine.

A deputy who responded to the Shell/Texaco noted that the front window was shattered and the main doors were off their hinges. The report said there was also damage to the brick exterior of the building.

Security-camera footage reportedly showed a white or Latino man wearing a blue hat and gloves picking up the ATM after backing the truck through the locked double doors. The footage did not show how the man loaded the ATM into the vehicle.

Deputies were unable to find any valuable forensic evidence, the report stated. There was no further information.

The Cool Place To Be

Valencia and Mission Roads, Aug. 14, 1:32 a.m.

Deputies made at least two arrests at an AM/PM Mini Mart frequented by partying crowds late at night, a PCSD report said.

The report said that partygoers from a nearby house that often had noisy late-night gatherings would congregate at the AM/PM after authorities broke them up. These parties happened "almost ever(y) Saturday evening," the report indicated.

On this particular night, the report said, there were 30-40 people standing around the parking lot. A deputy activated his vehicle's emergency lights to begin dispersing the crowd; the report said people immediately began to flee.

Authorities arrested two high school students for underage drinking after a deputy noticed a car driving away from the AM/PM, with a man on the passenger side reportedly "sticking almost his entire body out of the vehicle." Subsequent breath tests of two 16-year-olds in the vehicle showed that they had alcohol in their systems.

Religious Nuts

UA Area, Aug. 19, 12:34 p.m.

Two men arrested for drinking in public complained that an officer had violated their rights when he confiscated "a large quantity of edible nuts that they claimed were religious food," a University of Arizona Police Department report said.

Three men were allegedly drinking beers wrapped in brown paper bags at a bus stop. An officer recognized two of the men from previous incidents involving public drinking and decided to see what the trio was up to.

Two of the men had warrants out for their arrest for failing to appear on liquor law charges. They were handcuffed and transported to Pima County Jail, where their nuts were confiscated despite their protests.
