Noshing Around

Down Under Bar Done

Aussie Cantina, an Australia-themed bar and grill at 1118 E. Sixth St., has closed. There's been a lot of speculation about the reasons but nothing definite. The owner says the business will reopen in the fall, but there's no word on whether it will be Aussie Cantina 2.0 or have a new theme. I had the opportunity to visit the cantina once and I liked what they were doing in the kitchen. It was tasty, and different.

The Parish Music Fest

The Music Fest at Parish, an ultra-cool Southern fusion gastropub at 6453 N. Oracle Road, continues through Sunday, May 4. There's free live music every night to go with the crawfish hushpuppies and Gulf oysters. For more info, including a schedule of performers, visit theparishtucson.com.

Fox Releasing a Pinot

Fox Restaurant Concepts will release its Fox Block Nine, a private-label 2012 pinot noir, at a complimentary wine tasting from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, May 9, at North Italia, 2995 E. Skyline Drive. While you're there, check out Fox's "Love Letter to Italia" within the pages of North's menu. More info at foxrc.com.

Fruit Stand Closing

I'm sorry to bid goodbye to a Tucson food institution, the Fruit-Land Market, which is closing after 55 years at Speedway and North Sixth Avenue. The place had great fresh fruit and an Old World feel. Best of luck and a big thank-you to Larry and Joan Green.

Food for Thought

You may have heard that the Tucson Weekly has been sold. I'm not sure what impact that will have on this column, but I enjoy covering the city's flourishing culinary scene and will continue to be in the mix regardless of Noshing Around's fate. Thanks for reading.
