Tip of the Kappy
Kappy's Bar and Sandwich Place, 2190 N. Wilmot Road, a charming bar and grill known for superfriendly, Cheers-esque service and atmosphere, is celebrating 10 years in business. Owners Kurt and Kris Veitch are hosting an all-day party on Tuesday, Oct. 22, with a mélange of festivities including a bingo game (for old time's sake), and food and drink specials. For more info, call 296-9500.
I love fall for many reasons, but none more so than all the beer events in Oktoberfest season. The 27th Great Tucson Beer Festival will be held from 6 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium, 2500 E. Ajo Way. The event includes samples of brews from across the Southwest, music, games and something called static steer roping. This is a 21-and-older event, with tickets priced from $25 to $90. Proceeds benefit Sun Sounds of Arizona. For more information, visit azbeer.com/tucson.
The annual SalsaFest along Arizona's Salsa Trial is celebrating the ever-so-popular condiment in Safford on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27 and 28. Events include a salsa challenge, a jalapeño eating competition, Chihuahua races and a car show, but sadly, no salsa dancing. It might be a bit of drive for Tucsonans, but admission is free. The event will be held in Safford's Town Square, 1111 Thatcher Blvd. (U.S. Highway 70). For details, visit salsatrail.com.
