El Charro Café in Sahuarita

El Charro president Ray Flores tells us he's opening another El Charro Café in Rancho Sahuarita Marketplace and Village, 15920 S. Rancho Sahuarita Blvd. Flores says the new eatery will have a menu similar to those at the other El Charro Café locations, with some additional breakfast and late-night offerings. The place will also have an indoor/outdoor bar and about 1,500 square feet of patio seating. Flores says he hopes to have the place open by Wednesday, May 5.

Jambalaya Feed

Dove of Peace Lutheran Church (665 W. Roller Coaster Road) is holding its third-annual Mardi Gras French Quarter Jazz Mass and Jambalaya Feed at 11 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 14. Pastor Stephen Springer, originally from New Orleans, says they're cooking up jambalaya, red beans and sausage, French bread, salad and king cake for the event, which will benefit victims of the Haiti earthquake. It's free, but donations will be collected. People are encouraged to show up early; 887-5127.

Mini's Cupcakes

A new cupcake store called Mini's has opened at La Encantada (2905 E. Skyline Drive). Owner Jaynie Rossi, who also owns the cake shop Ambrosia of Tucson, says the red-velvet cupcakes are a hybrid of her chocolate cake recipe and a recipe from the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, and that the "Eighth Deadly Sin" cupcakes are straight out of a chocoholic fantasy. Frostings include cream cheese, butter cream and ganache. There's a vegan and gluten-free cupcake, too, and organic, fair-trade coffee made for the store by local coffee roasters Adventures in Coffee. 299-2605; www.miniscupcakes.com.

Boca Update

Bryan Mazon is still working to get Boca open in the old Greasy Tony's location at 828 E. Speedway Blvd. The place will serve salmon, whitefish, octopus, pork and beef tacos, and 10 kinds of salsa. Mazon is part of the family who owns and operates Papagayo Mexican Restaurant, but he and his wife, Maria, are stepping out on their own for this new venture. He hopes to have it open by early March.
