Noshing Around

For the Kids

On a Roll Sushi (63 E. Congress St.) will donate 10 percent of all sales made on Tuesdays in June to the Tucson Children's Museum. This is an especially generous offer considering that the summer months are hard on many local eateries. Call 622-7655, or visit www.onarollsushi.com for hours or more information.

Solar Cooking

I don't know why more people aren't down with solar cooking. It lowers the electric bill, and food cooked the solar way retains many nutrients destroyed during conventional cooking methods. What's not to love? Learn how to build your very own sun oven from 4 to 7 p.m., next Thursday, June 18, when local solar experts convene at the Santa Cruz River Farmers' Market (on the corner of Speedway and Riverview boulevards). The event also features solar-cooking demonstrations and solar-powered music—and it's free. Call 622-0525, ext. 242, for more info.

Pizzeria Vivace

Daniel Scordato, the culinary force behind the popular Italian eatery Vivace, has opened a pizza joint called Pizzeria Vivace in St. Philip's Plaza at 4280 N. Campbell Ave. A manager at the eatery says the pizzas range from $12 to $17 and feed two people. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; and 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday. Call 529-2700 for more info.

In barely related news, the old Intermezzo location (5350 E. Broadway Blvd.)—an eatery initially owned by Scordato that closed last summer—will be converted into Tucson's second Burger City later this year. More on that next week.

Father's Day

I guess we're supposed to be happy with a barbecue and a power tool, but, man, it's slim pickings for us foodie fathers come Father's Day. Acacia (4340 N. Campbell Ave.; 232-0101; www.acaciatucson.com) has lobster, a New York strip and a Kahlúa brownie for $45. The Tucson Zoological Society's BBQ Bash features food and demonstrations of power tools and cooking from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Reid Park Zoo (1030 S. Randolph Way; 881-4753, ext. 12); $17.50 adults; $14.50 for kids age 2 to 14. Cayton's Restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club at Dove Mountain (6501 Boulder Bridge Pass, Marana; 572-3530) has a special three-course brunch menu from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., for $32.

Father's Day is Sunday, June 21. Reservations are recommended.
