Almost New: Taco Giro
Taco Giro Mexican Grill opened about six months ago. A Noshing reader wrote in to say how much she liked the food, especially the chile relleno. According to the managing partners, Diana Folsom and Norma Lugo, Taco Giro makes homemade corn and flour tortillas, handmade salsas, fish tacos, different soups daily and adobada pork burros (pork marinated in red chile powder), among other things. Beer is served, too. Nothing on the menu costs more than $5.99, and most items cost much less. Check it out at 5754 E. 22nd St.; 514-2199.
Kosher Wine Tasting
Kosher wine has evolved past the overly sweet Manischewitz wine of my youth, and that's a mitzvah. On Wednesday, Oct. 10, Elle Restaurant, along with the Arizona Jewish Post, hosts a kosher-wine-tasting fundraiser for the Jewish Family and Children's Service. Wine will be paired with an assortment of hors d'oeuvres. The cost is $10 in advance, or $15 at the door. For tickets, call Lori Riegel at 319-1112, ext. 15, or stop by Elle, 3048 E. Broadway Blvd.; 327-0500.
Closed
Rockin' Baja Lobster on Broadway Boulevard and Kolb Road has closed. According to the corporate franchise office, the restaurant closed abruptly and will not be reopening, even though the local phone-number recording says the restaurant is temporarily closed.
