Noshing Around

On Broadway

Austin's Old Fashioned Ice Cream is now at 6129 E. Broadway Blvd., in the former Souper Salad space; 514-5132. The old location at 2920 E. Broadway was supposedly closed for repairs, but management tells us it is closed for good.

Viva Las Zona

Zona 78 promoted Patrick Vezino to lead chef. Before joining Zona several months ago, Vezino was the executive chef at the Aliante Golf Club and Resort in Las Vegas, opening the resort in 2004. In 2005, he was also nominated as best Las Vegas chef. Tom Mead, the former Zona 78 chef, has returned to Terra Cotta. Zona 78 is located at 78 W. River Road; 888-7878.

Puff and Sip

Jeff and Camerone Parker are realizing their dream with Stogie and Vine, a contemporary cigar bar and wine lounge, coming soon in what was the former Angel Threads retail store at Plaza Palomino (Swan and Fort Lowell roads). Jeff wants patrons to feel like they're sitting in a living room complete with a wine cellar, wine bar and private humidors within reach. He's hoping for a late June opening.

Wired Tuesdays

Javalinas Coffee and Friends serves double-shot espresso drinks for the price of one shot on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. There's also live music and board games geared toward youth, but everyone is invited at 9136 E. Valencia Road, Suite 160; 663-JAVA.

In-n-Out

The good news is the construction of In-n-Out Burger has started in front of Robinsons-May at the El Con Mall. The bad news is when it opens, traffic on Broadway Boulevard between Alvernon Way and Country Club Road could be staggering. According to In-n-Out's vice president of planning, don't expect the El Con store to open until early fall. The Marana location, at Interstate 10 and Cortaro Farms Road, won't open until 2007. A third is planned, but a location has not been determined yet. On a side note, Thomas Keller, best known for his French Laundry restaurant, located in Yountville, Calif., will be opening a hamburger bistro modeling his burgers after In-n-Out, because he said that they do it right. Burgers will be paired with pricey bottles of wine--not milkshakes.
