Noshing Around

Chopped

Tucson's newest fresh and healthy, made-to-order restaurant opens March 14 at 2829 E. Speedway Blvd. Diners can select ingredients from 50 different options that will then be finely chopped together and mixed with a choice of salad dressings. Sandwiches and paninis are served, too. Locally co-owned by Paolo DeFilippis and Jeff and Fran Katz, Chopped will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily; 319-CHOP.

El Con Muse

Rumor has it that a plan-check is in progress for an In-N-Out Burger at 3515 E. Broadway Blvd.; ditto for a Starbucks, even though one is already located nearby in Target. Calls to El Con's management company were not returned by press deadline.

Climb A Mountain

La Parrilla Suiza is a proud sponsor of the American Cancer Society's 22nd Annual Climb to Conquer Cancer, a 3.4 mile non-competitive walk and competitive run to raise awareness, starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at Pima Community College's west campus, located at 2202 W. Anklam Road. Look for the fun-food booth in the main festival area on top of "A" Mountain.

Starr Pass Resort Dining

Marriott's new Starr Pass Resort opened with these restaurants: Signature Grill (serving three meals a day); Plunge (dishing up drinks and casual food poolside); Salud (a tequila bar offering a selection of Mexican appetizers); Starbucks (everyone knows what that is); Blossom (serving smoothies and vegetable wraps); and Primo (fine Northern Italian fare, but not open until April).

Topless Oysters

March is oysters on the half-shell month at Fuego. Savor Atlantic and Pacific gourmet varietals, along with oyster stew, at 6958 E. Tanque Verde Road; 886-1745.

More Food Trends

Last week, Noshing mentioned that all-things-chocolate was the next food trend. Other trends include organic goat cheese from California, New Zealand and Ireland; and Italian and Spanish wines, olive oils and cured meats. Ultimately, it all boils down to the prominence of eye-catching packaging that takes the product from shelf to shopping bag.
