Hitting the Sauce

Sauce, from the Fox Restaurants Concepts folks, will open its second Tucson location at 5285 E. Broadway Blvd., across from the Williams Centre and next to Pei Wei Diner, on June 28. This fast-casual restaurant serves a variety of gourmet, thin-crust pizzas cooked in a brick oven at 700 degrees, which takes only minutes to bake. And since it's summer, you and a guest can share a pizza and a salad and each get a glass of pinot grigio or chianti for $20. Open daily from 11 a.m., 514-1444. (See "Fast Casual Redux," Dec. 25, 2003, for a review of the Oracle Road location.)

Saved: Little Poca Cosa

The Little Poca Cosa will most likely relocate in mid-August to the site of the former Mykonos Greek Restaurant at the corner of Stone Avenue and Alameda Street. In recognition of the Davila sisters' commitment to downtown for more than 17 years, the Rio Nuevo staff worked to help the Little Poca Cosa find a new home.

How Was Everything?

We ate dinner the other night at a nice restaurant, and while the food was great, the service was fractured. There was also a 3 percent charge that was added to the bill after taxes. When questioned, the first waiter mumbled something about a wine charge, but we didn't order wine. Finally, someone brought us an adjusted bill saying that "sometimes their computer spits out an extra 3 percent."

Why don't you review the printout before bringing it to the table? What about the people who don't notice? Do you send them a refund?

On our way out, the hostess asked the requisite, "How was everything?" I had to tell her that it was just so-so. She said, "I'm sorry to hear that." Unfortunately, she didn't ask what the problem was. Wasn't she or management the least bit interested about a less than par experience? Perhaps that's the reason the restaurant was more than half empty.
