Noshing Around

King of the Jungle

The fund-raising event Primavera Cooks continues at Fuego Restaurant on July 16 at 6:30 p.m. with the three Alan/Allens--Allen Kath of Metro Networks, Alan Michaels of Clear Channel Radio and Alan Zeman, owner of Fuego--in the kitchen with KVOA Channel 4's Gina Corral. The pairing of South African food and wine forecasts a king-of-the-jungle experience. $100 donation per person, inclusive. Call 886-1745 to RSVP.

Atkins Diet Dining

It seems like the whole world is doing the Atkins diet. At Capriccio's Italian Restaurant, you can eat sumptuously for lunch and dinner on 6.2 total carbohydrates for hickory smoked pork loin with a medley of sautéed vegetables; 5.25 total carbs for Southwest chicken salad; and 3.45 total carbs of grilled chicken breast wrapped in bacon strips and provolone cheese. Lunch served in the bar or takeout Monday-Friday 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. 4825 N. First Ave., 887-2333.

Bye Bye

Hot tip from a Noshing reader: Italiani's is the latest to close in the old Boccata location, upstairs at River Center, River and Craycroft roads. Italiani's was the latest incarnation of Ragazzi, which began in Tucson at the former Vivace in Crossroads. (The Ragazzi folks started with a restaurant in Nogales.) After Boccata, it was Casanova, then Rio Grill, then the Ragazzi/Italiani's. OK, so what gives? It is the location? Downstairs, Ric's Café keeps rocking through three successful owners.

Beyond Bread to Chain Reaction

When Beyond Bread on Campbell Avenue moved across the street to newer and bigger digs, the cookie-cutter Chipotle Grill (owned by McDonald's) took its place. Sigh.
