Nine Questions

Kate Willow Inman

Kate Willow Inman is a Tucson transplant by way of Ithaca, New York. The mixed media artist, since driving cross country four years ago, has found a place in the local art scene. Inman hosts a weekly Nicolas Cage movie night properly titled "Cage Match." You might remember her from days working at Casa Video and Zia Records. She is attending the UA for 2D studio art, you can usually find her smiling face slinging (and sweeping) popcorn at The Loft Cinema.

What was the first concert you attended?

Oh my god, it was Franz Ferdinand and Death Cab for Cutie. I sat in the nosebleed seats with my mom. I was a winner.

What are you listening to these days? The Cramps, The Knife, Shannon and the Clams, Magnetic Fields, Salem, Trust, Matthew Dear, Bear Hands, White Lies, and then there's always Biggie and David Byrne ...

What was the first album you owned? It was Presidents of the United States of America on cassette, you know, the one with "Peaches" on it.

What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don't get? Most any music you find on the mainstream radio stations. It all just sounds like sad cookie cutter clones of club music that bros get crunked to. I swear, you'll find "Turn Down for What" on 10 stations and good local or interesting music on one. What's wrong with that picture?

What musical act, current or defunct, would you most like to see perform live? Hands down late 1970's Debbie Harry or Joan Jett. Those ladies are my spirit animals and I'd die to see them kicking ass in their waifishly strung-out prime.

What is your favorite guilty pleasure? With a heavy heart, I'd have to say Kanye West. Don't tell anyone though.

What song would you like to have played at your funeral? "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult. That'd be apropos right?

What artist changed your life and how? There are so many, but I would definitely settle on my immortal intergalactic lord and savior, David Bowie. From his chameleon-like music stylings and appearance to his confidently androgynous sexuality. From an early age he taught me to stray away from the pack and be your own style icon.

Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time? I don't know why there would be a gun to my head, but it would be Speaking in Tongues by The Talking Heads. Best album of all time, front to back.
