Louise Le Hir is a singer-songwriter whose music incorporates country, folk, psychedelic, rock and French pop. She has lived in Tucson for the past two years. Her next gig is next Saturday, Oct. 8, at Solar Culture Gallery, where she'll open for Spindrift and Young Hunter. She'll be accompanied, as usual, by drummer Benjamin Blake. What was the first concert you ever saw?
My mom took me to a Steve Winwood concert at the Blossom Music Center (in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio). She made me leave before it ended, because I was 7 or 8, and she was afraid I would get trampled.
What are you listening to these days?
What I listen to normally are songs I want to learn, so lately, it's been a lot of Flying Burrito Brothers and Brigitte Bardot, and I always listen to Neil Young.
What was the first album you owned?
The Bangles' Different Light. Girl group! When I was in first-grade, we lip-synched at the talent show to "Manic Monday."
What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don't get?
That's a tough question. I mean, good is good, you know? I can't think of a genre where there isn't at least one song that hasn't inspired me in some way.
What musical act, current or defunct, would you most like to see perform live?
The Beatles.
Musically speaking, what is your favorite guilty pleasure?
At 3:30 in the morning, I tend to make people watch Beyoncé's "Single Ladies" video.
What song would you like to have played at your funeral?
I don't want to even think about that. Don't confront me with my mortality.
What band or artist changed your life, and how?
Neil Young. The simplicity and complexity of his songs made it so I could relate to songwriting as something I could do.
Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?
The Beatles' The Beatles (aka "The White Album").
