Sarah Terpening is a local music fiend who can often be found downtown taking in the sights and sounds of Tucson's finest. When she's not recovering from last night's show, she spends her time working for the Presbyterian Church, pretending to understand football, and making snarky comments on the Internet.
What was the first concert you ever saw?
Heh. Korn and White Zombie at the TCC, 1995. Bagpipes, pyrotechnics, and evil, dead clowns. Awesome.
What are you listening to these days?
Bah. I spend way too much time listening to sad songs. So lately I just keep a crazy thing called a "radio" on. I listen to "stations." Mostly KXCI and NPR. It's very enriching.
What was the first album you owned?
Eek. The Spin Doctors, Pocket Full of Kryptonite. That's pretty embarrassing.
What artist, genre, or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don't get?
Um, almost everything. I'm like an anti-hipster. Not only did I not know about it before you, I discovered it at least five years later.
What musical act, current or defunct, would you most like to see perform live?
I've always regretted missing Arcade Fire at Solar Culture. I'd love to see them. When I saw their Austin City Limits performance I was completely blown away. I think I actually cried in front of my little TV.
Musically speaking, what is your favorite guilty pleasure?
Oh, all right. I love Everlast. Whitey Ford. That guy from House of Pain? Yeah, him. Love him.
What song would you like to have played at your funeral?
Something kind of religious, like Jeff Buckley covering "Hallelujah." Or Courtney Robbins covering "Like a Prayer."
What band or artist changed your life, and how?
Erykah Badu completely turned me out. I was young and had all these pop radio stereotypes about black music. Turned. Me. Out.
Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?
OutKast, Aquemini. Every couple of years it just takes over my life for a few weeks.
