Nine Questions

Chris Gunn, who grew up in Washington state, moved to Tucson more than three years ago to play music and explore life in the desert. His band, Low Ones, released their seventh CD, No More Darkness, earlier this month. Low Ones play with fellow locals Monster Pussy at The HangArt tonight, Thursday, Sept. 24. Preview the Low Ones' work, which Gunn describes as "simple music for complex people," at www.myspace.com/lowones.

What was left of the Beach Boys at the Puyallup (Wash.) Fair, in the late '80s.

What CDs are in your changer right now?

Wooden Birds, Magnolia; Two Gallants, The Scenery of Farewell; Leonard Cohen, Songs of Leonard Cohen.

How many total albums do you own (CDs, vinyl, cassettes, 8-tracks)?

I used to manage a record store, and I work at Bookmans, so, really, too many to count. Maybe 2,000?

Do you download music, and if so, legally or illegally?

I'm too old-fashioned for downloading, but all the kids keep raving about it.

What was the first album you owned?

Ozzy Osbourne, Bark at the Moon, on cassette.

What song would you like to have played at your funeral?

"Time" or "Lonely" by Tom Waits

Musically speaking, what do you love that your friends don't know about? What's your favorite guilty pleasure?

Lady Gaga.

What band or artist changed your life, and how?

Captain Beefheart. The first time I heard Trout Mask Replica, my brains fell out of my ears, and I walked sideways for more than a week. It was a glimpse into an alternate reality where there were no wrong answers.

Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?

Tom Waits, Rain Dogs. It can make me laugh and cry, sometimes during the same song.
