Nine Questions

Tom Struck moved to Tucson from rural Illinois in 1976. He put his motto--"turning hobbies into work: a lifestyle choice!"--into practice by founding two of the Old Pueblo's finest independent stores: Fantasy Comics (opened in 1977) and Twist and Shout Records and CDs (opened in 2005). Visit one or both to pick up some quality entertainment, support local businesses and hear Struck's highly entertaining anecdotes about rock 'n' roll history.

What was the first concert you ever saw?

My first real concert was at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. The headliners were B.B. King and Ten Years After. The opening two acts were Mott the Hoople and Brownsville Station. All the acts did two sets, and the show lasted until 1:30 a.m. (way past curfew)!

My musical tastes are shameless--mostly dreck pop--but most would be surprised to hear the Beastie Boys in my car cassette player.

Definitely the Beatles! They hit the U.S.A. when I was 12. I changed my hairstyle, radio habits and clothes, but I was still a dorky neo-teen.

Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?

The Beatles, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I've heard it hundreds of times and still love it!
