What was the first concert you ever saw?
Mac Davis at the Del Mar Fair in California back in the early '80s; I was in the third or fourth grade. My mom and her friend took me, and all I remember was a story Mac told about how a moth flew into his mouth one time when he was singing at another concert.
What CDs are in your changer right now?
None in my truck. I like local radio. At home: Bob Marley, Garth Brooks, Andrea Bocelli, Russell Bartlett, Toby Keith and Blake Shelton.
How many total albums do you own (CDs, vinyl, cassettes, 8-tracks)?
About 100 or so. Most of them are in a box labeled "college stuff."
Do you download music, and if so, legally or illegally?
I've never downloaded a song; computers scare me.
What was the first album you owned?
Kiss' self-titled album, when I was around 8 years old. I also learned with that LP that you can't leave albums in the sun. I almost cried when I saw it warped.
What song would you like to have played at your funeral?
"One Love" by Bob Marley.
Musically speaking, what do you love that your friends don't know about? What's your favorite guilty pleasure?
Enya. A couple of years ago, I was in a news unit with a photographer, and an Enya song came on. I said, "Oh, I love this song," and I turned up the radio. He looked at me and said, "Dan, don't ever do that again."
What band or artist changed your life, and how?
I would have to say Bob Marley has had the biggest impact on my life. I've listened to his music during some of the tough times in my life. It's enlightening, and it has such a strong message of joy and love, two things I wish our world had more of.
Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?
Van Halen, 1984.
