Letter to the Editor

TO MY FELLOW OLD WHITE MEN

They say he got elected by the people who look like us. Remember, please, however, that not all the people who look like us voted for him. To those of you who did, enjoy your gloat. It may prove to be the best part of the experience for you. You kept her (or them) out of the White House and that Black Man will soon be out of there, too. Remember, please, however that he is not our first Black President. He is our first Mixed-Race President and so some of the people who look like us, we claim him, too, not least because he represents what so many of you cannot abide - that Black People and White People could love each other, and act on it. Enjoy your gloat, but he represents a future you are not going to stop, despite your beloved guns. There is no cure for your fear because, tarde o temprano, the people who look like the ones he wants to wall out will become too powerful for you to hold back. Remember, please, however, that some of the people who look like us, we welcome that future. And as for that Old Time Religion, it's not going to let you control your women indefinitely, or erase the men who want sex with men, and the women who want sex with women, or all the many species that grow in that garden. Enjoy your gloat. I wonder if you will enjoy what he will have in store for us. Remember, please, however, that more than half the people, including many of the people who look like us, we voted not to make him president, and we are not going away.
