Kino Cabalgata Send-Off

More than 20 horseback riders from Arizona and Sonora make a horseback pilgrimage (cabalgata) commemorating one of Padre Kino's many rides for justice, beginning at 8 a.m., Friday, Dec. 27. Spectators are encouraged to see them off. The ride ends four days later at the Kino mausoleum in the town square of Magdalena de Kino. During the day riders travel south up the Santa Cruz River to the river's junction with Highway 82 near Nogales, following the route of Padre Kino's ride to save an innocent O'odham man from execution. The ride is conducted by members of Por Los Caminos de Kino, which promotes sainthood for Padre Kino.
