Sad to say but your overall disappointment with this particular establishment resonates with most of our dining experiences (I would say 8 out of 10) since moving to Tucson over a year ago. When we have pleasant surprises we share via online reviews. Sad for us is what appears as a lack of authentic ethnic cuisine (we have found 2-3) and then such an over abundance of standard or sub standard pub food. Do people really enjoy these china buffet places? And I've given up on authentic sushi? I haven't had any in Tucson yet that doesn't fall apart, crumble. Just very sad.
To Norm Meader, are you kidding? We go to Phoenix to breathe GLBT air because for all intents and purposes - for us, a committed, married, middle aged, church going gay couple - GLBT is non-existent in Tucson. If people in the GLBT community are slapping themselves on the back for how GLBT friendly Tucson is, then we really do have a major problem.
Well, I don't want to negate any good that has been done in the past and can't imagine what GLBTQ community in Tucson would be without it. But, after almost 2 years in Tucson (job relocation) my partner and I are doing everything we can to get outa Dodge and back to the West Coast. I've lived in urban and rural settings, USA and internationally. Yet, we're appalled and have never experienced such backwardness as Tucson -- not only when it comes to GLBTQ issues, but also, politically (roads, development, improvements) and socially (lack of prioritization for homeless). So whatever structural changes are deemed necessary by God I hope they are for the best. But I would expect that the same principle of justice and equality sought through programs and advocacy is practiced as well regarding employment issues; otherwise, the leadership would be a sham and lack credibility.
When are you folks at AZ Internat'l Film Fest going to get with the diversity and film festival connection by teaming with GLBTQ leaders in town and promoting (plastering in print and art everywhere you can) some GLBTQ themed films as one way to bring this backward small town into the light of day with current equality issues/events? Are you afraid of losing sponsors? Lead in/by/through Film Art.
The LGBTQ community really needs to pick up the pace in terms of community awareness and (respectful, non-violent, peaceful) activism. I'm new to Tucson and was shocked at the backwardness of the Pride Parade and am aghast at the deplorable number of LGBTQ-friendly places, bars and otherwise. Tucson seems 20-25 years behind other major metropolitan areas; and Phoenix doesn't fare much better. I hope that the focus of "talk" can lead to "action" that is measureable and sustainable in advancing (diversity) awareness.
New to Tucson and one of first places visited was Bisbee. Loved it - namely, that it was different from rest of Arizona I'd seen so far. Had best time in Bisbee. It will be one of my "go back to places," now more than ever with their recognition of same-sex civil unions. Get with the program rest of you in Arizona that remain in your Victorian-Puritan closets.
Thanks PickyPalate. I've seen other reviews on this place. At first blush it seems the kind of place I would really enjoy, having been 5 years in Belgium including countless visits to France. The common thread seems to be service, lack thereof. No consistency. I've been so disappointed with restaurants in Tucson (a recent transplant) that I just can't bring myself to risk another let down by going here ... I'll await more consistency of reviews regarding the service before I venture.
