CAST/CREW CALL
Local director/producer Pearry Reginald Teo is putting out a call for local cast and crew members for his next film project, The 13th Hour. The 13th Hour is a two-part series that will be released directly to DVD. Teo/Ward Productions, LLC--run by Teo and partner Chad Michael Ward--will be hiring cast and crew through September, and filming in Tucson in October and November. PAN LEFT FUNDRAISER
The Third Annual Rasquacho Art Show will be held on Saturday, June 30. This event is a fundraiser for Tucson's Pan Left Productions, a nonprofit media-arts collective. It features an exhibition of new works by Pancho Medina, as well as recent works by Tanya Alvarez, Elizabeth Burden, Raquel Mogollon and several other local artists. Video art by members of Pan Left will be screened, and there will be music by Pablo Peregrino, Elise DuBord, José "Pepo" Saavedra and other guests. GLOBAL FREEDOM FILMS
Dry River's Global Freedom of Movement Film Series is offering three film programs in July that examine how issues of immigration are being dealt with outside of the United States. All screenings are on Thursdays. July 5: three short films from Europe (7 p.m.) and Made in Italy (9 p.m.). July 12: German-language film Forst (7 p.m.). VOLUNTEER CALL FOR NALIP
Volunteers are still needed to assist with the upcoming Latino Producers Academy, hosted by the local chapter of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) Aug. 7-17. Produced by the UCLA School of Theater, Film and TV and the UA's Department of Media Arts, the academy is an annual event in its fifth year in Tucson. It's "an intensive 10-day professional development workshop for Latino film and documentary producers and directors." NALIP is looking for volunteers and production help; anyone interested should contact Ben Lopez. More information is available at nalip.org.
FILMS AT THE FOX
The Fox Tucson Theatre has a full schedule of classic films in July. Here's the lineup (all films on Saturdays): June 30: Breakfast at Tiffany's, 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. July 7: Some Like It Hot, 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. July 14: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, 11 a.m. ($1). July 14: The Sound of Music, 7:30 p.m. July 21: E.T. , 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. (11 a.m. screening $1). July 28: The Princess Bride, 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. (11 a.m. screening $1). IFASA MEETING
The July meeting of the Independent Filmmakers Association of Southern Arizona will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, July 9, at Access Tucson, 124 E. The meeting will feature a panel discussion on directors of photography, and will feature three Arizona-based D.P.s: Mark Braun, David Valdez and Vincent Pascoe. EVENTS AT THE LOFT
· Dancing Queens Sing-Along: On Saturday, June 30, the Loft is having a "Glam-A-Thon." The theater will be screening Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and a bunch of ABBA videos, and audience members are encouraged to dress either in drag or in their favorite ABBA-inspired attire. And to sing along, naturally. 9 p.m.; $5.· Fourth of July events: On Wednesday, July 4, Liberty Watch Radio host Charles Heller and Inside Track radio's Emil Franzi will be at the Loft for a screening of 1975 action-adventure film The Wind and the Lion. The event will also feature a 25-foot replica of the USS Tucson in the parking lot. 1 p.m.; $5. Also on July 4, the Loft will have a Team America: World Police Sing-Along. There will be beer and "freedom dogs" on the patio in advance of the screening. 6 p.m.; $5.
· Cinema Lounge: On Tuesday, July 17, the Loft debuts a new monthly series, Cinema Lounge, dedicated to screening works by Arizona filmmakers. This month, the theater will screen La Venganza by Tucson filmmaker and NALIP president Ben Lopez (see above for NALIP info). Lopez will be on hand for an early mixer and afterward for a Q&A. · Fear and Loathing at the Loft: Wednesday, July 18, is Hunter S. Thompson's birthday; the Loft will screen Terry Gilliam's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and have a Thompson look-alike contest. Thompson's pal and political prankster Dick Tuck will screen rare home movies of Thompson. 7:30 p.m.; $5.
