Update on Raul Alcaraz Ochoa: Press Conference Today at Noon

An update to yesterday's report regarding Raul Alcaraz Ochoa was posted on Facebook yesterday from Roberto Lovato:

"RAÚL is FREE! Very rapid response helped make this happen. Local groups, Derechos Humanos, National Day Laborer Organizing Network and others , created the momentum. Wondering if my two cents-threatening to talk about Raul's case on MSNBC this Saturday-helped. Either way, I will discuss it anyway, if arrangements work. I had just interviewed Raul hours before his arrest. Brings the story home, the story of the "border security"-as-"immigration reform" madness-and the story of the courage that will break this madness."

There's a press conference today at noon, Southside Presbyterian Church, 317 W. 23rd St.:

Tucson, Arizona —Local Tucson Police Department officers called Border Patrol on a day labor DREAMer. As a result, Border Patrol placed Rubén Espinoza under their custody when labor/migrant rights community organizer Raúl Alcaraz Ochoa arrived on the scene and crawled underneath the Border Patrol vehicle— the second time in 6 months—to protest the injustice of detentions and deportations.

In light of the growing debate on immigration reform, collaborations between local police and immigration agents, as well as criminalization of migrants and militarization of the US-Mexico border would still continue. Our community does not stand for this.
