Since its Tucson debut August 4, 2002, “Too Jewish” has aired every Sunday morning in Southern Arizona, and has featured such prominent guests as legendary singer and recording artist Neil Sedaka, actor Ed Asner, musician Kinky Friedman, Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel, comedian Lily Tomlin, Rabbi Harold Kushner, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, and many more. It is a lively and fast-paced show that features music, arts, culture and comedy and that makes Judaism accessible, interesting, and fun for listeners of all ages.
Proceeds from the celebration will benefit Jewish Family & Children’s Services of Southern Arizona, which for more than 70 years has been providing high-quality, caring social and behavioral health services to Southern Arizonans regardless of age, race, religion, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation; Temple Emanu-El, a Reform synagogue that was the first synagogue in the Arizona Territory and is the historic congregation in the state; and Tucson Hebrew Academy, which is a pluralistic kindergarten through 8th grade Jewish Day School that has repeatedly been recognized for its educational excellence.
Rabbi Samuel M. Cohon, who hosts the weekly “Too Jewish” show, is the Senior Rabbi of Temple Emanu-El. During his thirteen years as Senior Rabbi, the Temple has grown from 350 to 700 families, built a new 140-student Early Childhood Education Center, created the most extensive Jewish Adult Education Academy in the country and, through its Taste of Judaism program, opened its doors to over 5000 students in an open explanation of Jewish tradition. He has also spearheaded the development of a comprehensive Outreach Program, an embracing Caring Community, and a dynamic music program including the Avanim Rock Band.
