From the "Math You Do As A Republican To Make Yourself Feel Better" Desk: Republican Gabby Mercer fired off a press release this afternoon declaring that she would not concede in her race against Congressman Raul Grijalva because she only trails him by 1,117 votes.

Says Mercer, in a press release:

“This was my first ‘rodeo’ but it will not be my last,” Gabriela Saucedo Mercer remarked in reference to the fact that she is currently down 1117 votes in Congressional District 3. “With such a tight race, and several thousand ballots yet to count, we are waiting until all the provisional and mail in ballots are counted before we decide what we will do next.”

We're not sure how they add things up in Mercerland, but in the real world, Mercer is trailing Grijalva by 24,865 votes. Grijalva has 57 percent of the vote, compared to Mercer's 38 percent.

The Range reached out Team Mercer for clarification and Carole V. Bartholomeaux said she'd double-check the numbers and get back to us.

We suppose it's possible that Team Mercer is just looking at the Congressional District 3 returns from the small slice in Maricopa County, where Grijalva's lead is a mere 1,553 votes. But since only 36,820 of the 132,333 votes cast in the CD3 race were in Maricopa County, we don't think that's how it works. Maybe Mercer figures that if she prevails, she can run some kind of congressional-office-in-exile up north of the Gila.

Mercer's complete(ly delusional) press release after the jump.

Saucedo Mercer went on to say: “I would like to thank first of all my God for seeing me through this campaign; second my #1 cheerleader and supporter, my husband Ted; my children for their encouragement and for being proud of their Momma; my staff, and my awesome volunteers who at one point or another donated their time, talent and treasure over the last 22 months.

This has been a very demanding and tough time for all of us. I am so proud of all my supporters! You should all know how humbled and honored I am to have seen the faith you have shown in me and OUR campaign. Words cannot describe how much that faith has sustained Ted and me throughout this journey. You have my deepest gratitude and appreciation. I love you!

"When a race as important as this one is separated by 1117 votes, my positive outlook is that my message reached the people. It was difficult running against two people who were essentially from the same party. Still I am so grateful for the opportunity afforded me as an American. The people of Arizona’s Third Congressional District deserve better then what they currently have.

Until we know that we have lost the battle for this election, I will not concede defeat. The stakes are too high and the need for real leadership is too important. The people of this District deserve a representative who fights for them and does not rally other states and foreign countries to boycott against Arizona. They deserve a representative who works to create jobs; will be supportive of commerce instead of opposing it. That is my promise: to bring jobs back to Pima County. Together we will build a community of which we can all be proud!

The choice is clear: support the status quo and watch our country fall down the hole of corruption and socialism or stand with me and return our country to the freedom, prosperity and strong communities which exemplify America! God bless you! God bless Arizona, God bless the United States of America!” Saucedo Mercer concluded.
