Watch Introducing PBS LearningMedia on PBS. See more from pbs.

I recently received a press release about the new PBS LearningMedia® service, claimed to help increase student achievement. I wondered what subjects are available in this free database and visited the site. It's pretty amazing. Check it out here.

You can search a wide variety of subjects—including arts, math, science, social studies—and by grade from Pre-K to 13-plus. Lessons are all over the map—a jingle about the 50 states, a microscopic view of the 24 human chromosomes, capturing renewable energy, learning about cheese melting, asking if pigs can be pets and old standbys like learning about acute triangles and amendments to the Constitution.

There will be an information fair about PBS LearningMedia® for educators on Tuesday, June 19, at Sunnyside High School. Call 621-1500 or email wwerden@azpm.org for info. Register at http://fairforeducators.net.

More info from the press release below the cut:

Arizona Public Media is proud to announce a collaboration with KAET 8/Phoenix for PBS LearningMedia®, a new, free, public media education platform available to every Arizona teacher and student. PBS LearningMedia® is a searchable database of online videos, lesson plans, and digital resources compiled from the vast program archives of PBS. Imagine resources from programs like NOVA, Nature, American Experience, and Sesame Street all in one web-based location that can be searched by topic and grade level. Visit http://az.pbslearningmedia.org/ to see the site, and get started.

More than 60 percent of K-12 teachers frequently use digital media in the classroom and are increasing their reliance on free resources due to school budget cuts. PBS LearningMedia® is a teacher’s destination for easy, instant access to tens of thousands of classroom-ready, digital resources including video and interactive perfect for the interactive Whiteboard, plus audio and photos, and even in-depth lesson plans. Teachers can search, save, and share with ease.
