The University of Arizona is looking to make the head coaching position for its club hockey team a permanent position, not just something that apparently anybody can do. The gig was posted today on the UA job board and requires, among other things, applicants to have a degree in recreation, sports management, administration, physical education or a related field and have at least four of head coaching experience at the college level or better.
Karen White, a UA Campus Recreation employee who is listed as the departmental contact on the job listing, said the school is looking to solidify the position by making it a 10-month appointment that pays $35,000. Current head coach Sean Hogan, who piloted the Wildcats this past season during their first year as an official UA sport, is allowed to reapply for the opening, White said.
I wonder if Leo Golembiewski, who founded the team — known then as the Icecats — and coached it for 32 years before being ousted by his players a year ago when they wanted to get under the umbrella of Campus Rec, will apply for the position ...
