What to Listen to This Week: Friday Edition

Posted By on Fri, Dec 16, 2011 at 4:00 PM

Four songs recommended by our music writers in this installment of our twice-weekly series, performed by Little Richard, the Buzzcocks, the Greedies, and the Maccabeats.

Eric Swedlund
Little Richard, "Kansas City"

Some days, you just need Little Richard. And this swinging R&B version of the Leiber & Stoller hit makes 1959 sound damn awesome. If you want to get lost in YouTube, start with Little Richard's "Kansas City" and keep clicking through to other versions - Fats Domino, The Beatles, James Brown, Bill Haley, Muddy Waters... yeesh.

Michael Petitti
Buzzcocks, "Oh Shit!"

It happens. Sometimes, often.

Casey Dewey
The Greedies - A Merry Jingle

What do you get when you cross Thin Lizzy and The Sex Pistols? The Greedies! From what I gather, this was a "fuck around and just rock it out" affair, a bunch of cool blokes getting together and having a good time. Lucky for us! Spike the eggnog and play it loud.

Annie Holub
The Maccabeats, "Candlelight"

Hannukah starts Tuesday night, and this jam from last year is still my new favorite Hannukah song. Sorry, Adam Sandler. It's an a capella reinterpretation of Taio Cruz' "Dynamite," except with latkes being thrown in the air sometimes.
