In part two of the series no one asked for (part one: Wings), I suggest five songs from an act that will be featured at the three day (and one afternoon) music event The Great Cover Up, happening December 15-17 and benefiting the Tucson Artists and Musicians Healthcare Alliance. This week, because I'm apparently working my way through the groups in reverse alphabetical order, here are five songs by Wilco.

1. "Outtasite (Outta Mind)" (1997)

I am a million years old and wildly predictable, so of course, I prefer Wilco's pre-Yankee Hotel Foxtrot albums. This isn't necessarily something I'm proud of, but I'm always going to think this is a great song.

2. "Let Me Come Home" (2001, sort of, I think)

This song, which is from the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot sessions, wouldn't have really fit on that album, but it's such a great track that I'm not sure why it never appeared on an album later. Sure, it would be a jerkish move to perform an obscure outtake as part of a twenty minute Cover Up set, but this song is so good, it would be worth the two and a half minutes.

3. "You Are My Face" (2007)

Yes, I know that "Impossible Germany" is supposed to be the best song on Sky Blue Sky, but there's something about "You Are My Face", maybe the harmonies, that's really haunting for me. It's just a beautiful song.

4. "I Can't Stand It" (1999)
5. "When You Wake Up Feeling Old" (1999)

RIP, Jay Bennett.
