Professional archaeologist Allen Dart began the nonprofit Old Pueblo Archaeology Center back in 1993 to provide opportunities for the general public to participate in archaeological and historical research. No one has worked harder than Allen to share the fun, excitement, mystery and hard work of archaeology with both children and adults. Old Pueblo offers tours to archaeological sites, visits to excavations, excavation opportunities (for both experienced and novice volunteers) and educational programs for children. Their mission is to help folks "understand and appreciate archaeology and other cultures, to foster the preservation of archaeological and historical sites, and to develop a lifelong concern for the importance of nonrenewable resources and traditional cultures."
