Also known as Lo Banh Mi Viet Nam Dau Tien Tai Tucson, this secret Speedway hole-in-the-wall dishes up an adventure for foodies. The Vietnamese sandwich is a little-known legacy of the French colonial era in Indochina: traditional Vietnamese ingredients served on a very French, very fresh baguette baked on the premises. Southeast Asian food has some unusual and very pleasant textures: Try the sticky rice dishes and tapioca drinks for the ultimate mouth-feel. And don't miss the paté chaud: a flaky golden pastry filled with slightly sweet salty pork. The staff couldn't be friendlier and are always willing to explain the more mysterious items, sometimes offering a little taste. A sumptuous lunch here won't set you back more than $5.
