Best Pop Music Station

KROQ 93.7 FM

Baby Boomers will remember the days when there were lots of pop music stations on the air, and all of them, trusting their audiences to be open-minded, played a wide range of music. You could hear the Stones, followed by Marvin Gaye, followed by Led Zeppelin, then Carole King, then Creedence Clearwater Revival. But this was all before the Suits From Hell decided that listeners were too stupid to like more than one kind of music, and so the new strategy was to create and then try to corner niche markets (alternative, country, blah, blah, blah). That makes KROQ's appearance at the top of the local ratings all the more satisfying. KROQ might be the only true pop music station in town--but the folks at 93.7 do it right. In any given hour you can hear Chingy, Evanescence, Beyonce and Matchbox 20. They play a variety of music and people tune in--what a concept!
